Our ancestors who left Ulster for America centuries ago brought our heritage and traditions with them, especially when it came to music and food. This summer, we're celebrating our musical and culinary roots with our Bluegrass BBQs.

Bluegrass BBQ: Cool Hand String Band & Ian Alexander

We're so excited to have Omagh's own Cool Hand String Band bringing the local energy and Bluegrass buzz to the Folk Park! Supported by Ian Alexander, you can expect stellar strings and unique sounds at this Bluegrass BBQ.

Try authentic American street food flavours at the BBQ, washed down with a Bourbon, Rye Whiskey, Ale or American Beer (all available to purchase at the bar, please drink responsibly). Bringing the little ones along? Hang out at the family games field for a game of draughts, corn hole, tin can alley and more!

You get full access to the whole visitor experience as well, as we bring the diverse and compelling stories of Irish and Ulster-Scots emigrants and their impact on the development of the United States more vividly to life. We're calling it the STORIES OF US

About the Artists

Cool Hand String Band are a group of energetic, Bluegrass enthusiasts from Omagh, Co. Tyrone who have combined their individual musical influences to create a unique sound within the genre. The band consists of Conor Conway on bass guitar, Nevin Colton on guitar and vocals, Bronagh Broderick on violin and vocals and Gary McAleer on the 5-string banjo.

Ian Alexander’s passion for Bluegrass music began at a young age. Travelling through the southern United States, he played festivals and engaged in jam sessions with seasoned Bluegrass musicians. He has had personal encounters with legends such as Bill Monroe, Doc Watson, and Peter Rowan, who have greatly influenced his style. Originally performing with the group Appalachian Strings, Alexander developed a reputation for both his technical skill and heartfelt interpretations of Bluegrass standards and murder ballads.
